Description
Beautiful early example of a Luftwaffe Radio Operator/Air Gunner Badge constructed of silvered tombak, consisting of an oval laurel and oak leaf wreath, with a mobile swastika at the bottom, the obverse with a Luftwaffe eagle clutching dual lightning bolts in its talons, the reverse with a barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a textbook “pig tail” round wire catch, with two visible rivets holding the eagle in place, maker marked “W. Deumer, Lüdenscheid” to the reverse. These are rather uncommon as most found are not true Deumer produced pieces, they are put together by Deumer and Juncker, this is a TRUE DEUMER producer piece. The reverse also shows the original awardee’s serial number scratched in, truly a beautiful badge!
