Description
This is a fantastic World War II period medal grouping as found. The group consists of the original ribbon bars, collar insignia, pair of armored division DUI’s, the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Silver Star, early Combat Infantry Badge in Silver, and the soldiers original pair of dog tags with his information. All the awards are period engraved with the same name that is on the dog tags.
Staff Sergeant Vernon P. Grenzebach of Missouri serial #37601475, was a member of the 6th Armored Division, 44th Armored Infantry Battalion, C Company. After participating in the liberation of the Buchenwald Concentration Camp in early April of 1945, SSGT. Grenzbach would participate in the costly River Zwickau crossing on April 14th near Rochlitz, Germany. This was a rough day for C company who suffered serious casualties, on this day SSGT. Grenzbach would earn his Silver Star. His citation reads…..
