Description

Very nice and hard to find example of the Narvik Campaign Shield as worn by a member of the Kriegsmarine (Navy).Overall in beautiful condition with nearly all of the gold finish remaining. The shield is missing it’s backing, but is more than likely was never issued with one. The shield still has 3 originally attached prongs left. Measuring 3 1/2 x 1 5/8 inches this shield makes for a big and bold award. The design traits of this unmarked Narvik shield are attributed to the manufacture (Wilhelm Deumer, Lüdenscheid.) The closed areas between the head and wings show this is the 2nd type by this manufacture. Overall a fantastic example that displays amazing with all the frosty finish, rare piece to find!

Note – These gold colored Narvik shields were awarded to Kriegsmarine soldiers that participated in the battle of Narvik between April 9th to June 9th, 1940. A total of only 3,661 Kriegsmarine personnel were awarded the Narvik campaign shield. The shields were awarded in two versions, gold for the Kriegsmarine (Navy) and silver for Heer (Army) and Luftwaffe. About 8577 examples have been awarded in total to all the branches of service.
