Staff Sergeant Vernon P. Grenzebach of Missouri serial #37601475, was a member of the 6th Armored Division, 44th Armored Infantry Battalion, C Company. After participating in the liberation of the Buchenwald Concentration Camp in early April of 1945, SSGT. Grenzbach would participate in the costly River Zwickau crossing on April 14th near Rochlitz, Germany. This was a rough day for C company who suffered serious casualties, on this day SSGT. Grenzbach would earn his Silver Star. His citation reads…..

“For Gallantry in action in the vicinity of Rochlitz, Germany on the 14th of April 1945.SSGT. Grenzbach braved intense enemy fire to effectively cover a river crossing operation by his company. His gallantry and tactical skill reflect great credit upon himself and his military service.”
After the war he would return home to Missouri where he would live a full life until his last days where he would be laid to rest in Missouri. This is truly an amazing piece in regards to medal collection, or U.S history. To have such a complete identified group with tons of research still left to go.
