Description

This 50 Engagement General Assault Badge is a textbook example of a very hard to find badge. It is made of zinc, the original silver wash finish has faded some as is typical for these. To find an example with decent finish reaming is even harder to find! There is nice contrast between the massive central eagle emblem and the outer wreath. The obverse of this badge shows little or no wear, and all of the original detail is intact. The box with “50” number retains its black paint in the recesses. The reverse of this badge retains the original silvering to the wreath. It’s maker marked behind the wreath with the stylized “RK” maker mark of the firm of Rudolf Karneth. The block hinge and catch are correctly crimped in place with no damage or repairs, The rivets are tight, as they should be and also undamaged/without repair, though the dome of one is missing, this is common on these awards as they would fall off while being manufactured, the eagle is tight to the wreath with no issues either way. Truly a fantastic example of a VERY rare Third Reich era award!

Note – This award was one of several recently pulled from the woodwork in Indiana. It has never been in a collection and is about as nice as they come.
