Description

Very hard to find example of a Japanese Army/Navy Aviation Float Flag. Approximate size of  29.5″ x 39.5″ produced of fine light weight white silk.  The short white cotton tie-cords are to two of its corners where triangular reinforcements may be seen. What makes this flag different from most is the tunnel loop that runs along all of its sides, within which are evenly distributed sections of buoyant kapok (the same material used in their life-jackets). These were made to float and be used as a marker for downed airmen, these light weight thin silk flags required almost no space to store, they were normally carried in the special pocket found to the lower right front pocket of the life-jacket. These do not pop up often and are considered very rare.
