Description

Absolutely amazing grouping recently found here in Central Illinois. This set has been identified to Lt. Joseph Gordon Bumgarner, serial #36335779, Flight Navigator, 14th Army Air Force, 11th Bomb Squadron, 341st Bomber Group. From Putnam County Illinois, Lt. Bumgarner  enlisted into the Army May 5, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois, he would serve out the entirety of the war overseas for 2 years before coming home. Still much more research could be done in finding out this Officer’s flight history. Included in the grouping is his M-1926 Officer Greatcoat, his Pink and Green uniform with both sets of pants, as well as the original undershirt and tie. Overall everything has light storage wear, could clean up even more if one wanted to do so. The Officer jacket has a diffrent soldiers name inside as well, more than likely reissued once Bumgarner made Officer rank, (without a doubt his service jacket.) All three jackets have amazingly beautiful/rare bullion insignia including the rank devices, lapel and even flight wings. The two 14th AAF “Flying Tigers”patches are extremely rare in their own right. Included in this grouping are some artifacts that were also included in the pockets including the additional bullion insignia to finish his pink jacket, some matches a business card, as well as a great photograph of Lt. Bumgarner sitting in a knocked out Japanese Zero. This grouping is very striking to the eye, it is 100% untouched and hasn’t seen the light of day in decades until just recently.
